Spiritual practices for Work-life Success
Excerpts from Shri Aasaanji’s discourse on ‘Spirituality is for Everyone’ in the US, April ‘17
Many youngsters and working people, in their initial years when laying the foundation for their future, shy away from real spirituality despite stress and professional pressures they endure. They believe spirituality needs one to renounce life. The fact is, spirituality is about rejoicing life.
Spirituality is the science of wellbeing, applicable to all ages, all people, any gender and should be practiced from an early stage to give yourself the best of life for the rest of your life. Currently religious activities are misguided and misunderstood as spirituality.
Today let me give you a few important directions that need no deep knowledge of spirituality but can be applied in your work environment to see remarkable results.
Value Yourself: Know that you are valuable and capable in what you do. Wait not for someone else’s acceptance of your value and worth. If you do not accept your own value, don’t expect others to see the value in you. Kshatriya Shastra further says, ‘Without belief in one’s own value, there is no value in other’s belief in you’.
The Power of Confidence: To build a successful team it is not essential to be brilliant, it is essential to be confident. Because people like to be associated with confident, rather than brilliant people. A confident person makes others feel secure, and increases self-esteem and this builds their confidence. They believe they are working with an expert. It is your duty therefore to portray confidence, even if you don’t feel it. People then value their association with you.
Clarity is Key: It is important to have clarity of ‘I know’ or ‘I don’t know’. ‘I think’ implies ambiguity and ignorance. One who says, ‘I don’t know, but I can find it’ is loved and respected for his attitude. This answer makes immediate way for progress. Because not knowing isn’t a mistake, but clarity is power.
Put on Your Best Appearance: In a professional scenario, though required, it is impossible to be constantly at your best appearance and manner. Our shastras have a simple solution to this. Place mirrors in places where you present yourself to others, like conference and meeting rooms. It is the mind’s design; that you may not appear at your best despite other’s presence, however, when you look at yourself in the mirror, you will automatically and naturally present yourself the best you can, in posture, expression and manner.
The above spiritual practices can be immediately and effortlessly put into practice to see tremendous growth in the personal and work environment.
Wishing you a life of peace, success and progress.
