SELF CONFIDENCE – THE DRIVING FORCE OF SUCCESS
What is important is not the Reality but the Mentality! We may not have the power to change the reality or a situation immediately but everybody is blessed with a power to change the mentality. This is what Vedas insist as self-confidence. You will be able to do it and you can do it. But it’s not easy in this present world. There is a beautiful story from our Puranas related to this.
CONFIDENCE – THE SOURCE OF SUCCESS
A man suffering from huge debts decided to end his life as he concluded that the debt is not manageable and he was unable to take care of his family, but kept on postponing his decision to do so.
He stood at the seashore for a long time looking at the waves but was unable to step into the waters. Something was stopping him. Finally he gathered all possible courage and decided to move forward. Suddenly, someone touched his shoulder. It was a well-dressed elderly man who was humble enough to enquire about this man’s condition. According to this wise man, he doesn’t see any reason for the other person to die as he was very young and healthy.
After a short conversation, he went up to his chariot and brought two bags; one filled with money and the other with gold. He handed them over to the young man and asked him to try and work on something hard taking all risks in life. He advised him not to worry about failures saying that even if it’s a failure, work hard and move forward as he has these bags of wealth with him. The elderly man asked the other person to meet him after one year and return the money and gold in case he succeeded in his ventures. He left the place promising to meet him exactly after one year at this same place. The young man reached home and was happy to see his family. He promised that he will work hard because now that he knows that even if he faces failure, he had something to back up which will help him to rise above failure. With that confidence, he took an effort and was able to achieve success for the first time.
After that, his vision grew and there was something that was pushing him to work harder and achieve success step by step. There was a confidence that was guiding him throughout the process. The day arrived when he had promised to meet the wise man. But he had to wait a long time before a young boy came to him. The young boy introduced himself as the grandson of the rich man. He also told the other person to believe him and hand over the bags as per his grandfather’s instructions. He handed it over to the boy. As they open those bags for the first time, to his surprise, the bags did not contain gold and money as he believed these many days. One bag contained seeds and the other contained empty sheets of paper. He then realised that its not money or gold that helped him achieve success, but it was his confidence that backed him every time he failed.

This is the most important lesson to be learnt in life. Once you realise your own self, you will always realise that the entire world is with you. If you want to see the change you want in life, first change your mentality. It’s not just your two visible hands; there will be numerous invisible hands ready to help you. Man needs to realise that there is a power ready to help you face any situation. Confidence is the first thing you need to have to overcome any problem in life. This is real spiritual knowledge. The real challenge is the ability to face a situation when you don’t have the necessary resources. This is possible only when you take the effort to understand the real self. With self-confidence and consistent approach with courage, it is the nature that you can achieve anything you want. Courage is not just acting blindly in a given situation; it is the ability to do the same thing without fear in spite of facing failures.
With self-confidence and courage, it is the untold secret that the entire universe is at your disposal. One has to pass this test in life to achieve unstoppable success. Because God insists that He is always there for you, as Vedas say “Yaamirukka Bayamey” which means that He will be there even before you call for him to protect you from bad times. The only truth you need to realise & accept is that God will not work for you, He will work with you.
Realising this one can achieve anything and everything. Divine power is the highest resource with which one can never be a failure. Lack of success is not due to lack of money, education or experience its due to fear of failure. So always tell your-self that presence of God is equal to absence of fear.
